Are you adopting a new puppy soon? Or maybe you just got your puppy and need to make a pet store run to get must-haves? We were absolutely clueless about what we REALLY needed for Sassy before we brought her home. There is so much to think about when you bring home a new fur bundle of joy. Today, I’m going to show you exactly what to buy for your new puppy!
The night before we picked Sassy up, we went to the pet store to gather the things we needed. At the time, we didn’t know if we would pick a boy puppy or a girl so we got gender-neutral colored items.
Here’s What We Purchased:
- Food & water bowls
- Puppy food
- Puppy training treats (smaller treats that are great for potty training)
- Toys safe for chewing
- Pet taxi
A Few Tips
–Before we went to the pet store we made sure to find out what kind of food the breeder had been feeding her! We did not want to upset her tummy with a new kind of food right off the bat.
–We did not use puppy pads because I had read that it encouraged puppies to go to the bathroom inside the house and we definitely didn’t want that. We did just fine without them. You can read about our potty training strategy here.
The day after we brought Sassy home, we figured out we actually needed more puppy items than we initially bought and we had purchased the wrong kind of food accidentally. (Thankfully, the breeder provided a small bag we could use for her first few meals at our house.) I decided to create a checklist because I wished I’d had one when we were shopping for our puppy girl!
