Visit the World War I Museum
You can’t miss the amazing WWI Museum that Kansas City has. I learned SO much from this museum and my husband loved it also, being the history-lover that he is (he majored in History in college).
Go up in the WWI Museum Tower
This costs a bit extra, but you HAVE to do this when you go – you get the best view of Kansas City from here!!
Visit Boulevard Brewing
Want a cool view of Kansas City? Check out Boulevard Brewing! We loved stopping here to beat the heat with some ice-cold beverages. I loved the Fling craft cocktail, while Michael enjoyed ALL the beers he tried there. (Wouldn’t expect anything less!)
Check out the KC Library’s Parking Garage
Sounds dumb, but once you see the photo you get it!! The library has painted the parking garage to look like famous library books – so very cool and one of the best KC photo ops, am-i-right?!
Pet some pups at Bar K!
I think we all know I can’t resist petting just about any dog I see, so imagine when I found out there was a place called Bar K that was both an indoor/outdoor bar AND doggy playground that anyone could go to!! They even have birthday party options for pets. I got to see a Husky and pet a bunch of other dogs too! #daymade
My husband even made a friend – this pup repeatedly came up to him!
He was SO CUTE!!!!!! Don’t worry, we told Sassy we gave some other pups pets. 🙂
Visit the Kansas City Zoo
For my 30th birthday, I spent the day at the zoo! I love going to zoos so we had to check out the Kansas City Zoo. It did not disappoint! We spent two-thirds of our day here. Pack your walking shoes and definitely take the tram to the Africa part of the zoo!

Go Wine Tasting
There are several wine bars in KC – KC Wineworks was the one we stopped in. I wasn’t a huge fan of the wine that I tried, but they had a great atmosphere and it has a lot of amazing reviews. I think I just wasn’t a fan of the types of wine they had since I like sweet wines. But if dry wines are your jam, this is your place!
Spot Some Fountains
Kansas City is the city of fountains, after all! I think we only ended up spotting 3, but there are plenty more to check out if you do a quick google search!
Visit the Power & Light District
Think of Ballpark Village in St. Louis except bigger and you have the Power & Light District! For my 30th birthday, we saw Shaq DJ here! Yes, that’s right, the basketball player is also a DJ! Who knew!
They have several places to eat and drink at and a whole host of entertainment lined up in the summer. Be sure to check out their website before you go and don’t make the mistake that we did showing up without a ticket the first night. 🙂 The pizza by the slice here is pretty delicious and a must-try!
Check out the College Basketball Experience
I have been a Duke fan for over 10 years and my husband loves the Fighting Illini, so we had to check out the College Basketball Experience! We made the mistake of coming here directly after we had eaten a lot – meh. Definitely, a pre-lunch activity since it is so interactive. There are shooting contests, interactive exhibits where you can measure yourself versus players, courts to play basketball on and more. Super cool place if you are a college basketball fan!
