I can’t tell you how many people asked if I was going to Paris, Tennessee, when I told them we were going to Paris on our honeymoon. Y’all, I have heard of Paris, Tennessee, but I don’t think there’s really much to do there. I could be wrong, but I don’t think they have baguettes every day. I don’t understand the desire to not see new things and experience other cultures. This desire runs in our blood… so this is why we travel.
But isn’t it scary?
Sometimes people in the area we live in marvel at the fact that we want to leave the country. “Couldn’t you be in a terrorist attack?” and “Be careful, it’s so dangerous to travel these days” were both things I heard. As long as you pay attention to your surroundings, you will honestly be fine. I never once felt unsafe in Paris. I’ve definitely felt more unsafe in Chicago before than I did in Paris, lol. But even at that, I really have only felt unsafe in Chicago one time and it was at a train station in a sketchy area, lol. It’s all about researching your trips thoroughly, and knowing what areas to avoid at day or night.
Experiencing new things.
We travel and go to these places to experience new food and cultures. We go to these places to experience new things. We love having new wines and beers that can only be found around the world. We don’t ever understand why people don’t want to travel!! Yes, we sometimes have to make sacrifices here, but our experiences far outweigh these ‘things’ that we could have. And yes, at times traveling is a big whole hassle – the majority of our flights have never ran on time or have had to be rescheduled, but hey, that’s the nature of flying. 🙂
You CAN travel, no matter who you are.
We also run into a lot of people who say “oh yes, traveling sounds nice, but I could never do that.” or “I will just look at your photos and that’s enough for me” And that’s okay too, but I think people should at least try it once. We have so many amazing memories that we will bring up randomly to each other that we never would have had as a couple if we didn’t travel. Like “remember that one time we saw that lady wearing a coat and sock hat in 90 degree weather?” or “remember that one time we had alcoholic slushies and then did a little too much shopping at A. Schwab in Memphis?” lol!
Also, if I can do it, ANYONE CAN. You can find a way. You can save the money, you can find the time, and I promise you will never regret it!
Do you travel? Why or why not?
