A few years ago, when I visited Orlando, I decided that instead of going up in The Wheel at Icon Park during the day time, I wanted to go at night. (The Wheel was originally named the ‘Orlando Eye’ when I went.)
The Wheel continuously moves, only stopping to let people in the pods to take them to the top. It goes slow enough though that you have plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the view though. It is 400 feet high and in it, you can see as far as the Kennedy Space Center.
Since I decided to go at night, there was much, much less of a wait than at sunset or during the day. I am somewhat afraid of heights, but this didn’t really freak me out too badly. I am able to overcome my fear a lot. The whole experience felt really safe though. Especially compared to the Ferris wheels I went on as a kid! Ha!
In each pod, there are maps and items directing you to where several landmarks are located. The Wheel has 64,000 color-changing LEDs to create different light shows at various times throughout the year. It was violet on the warm August day when I went.
Next time, I do think I’d like to go during the day, but the night view definitely did NOT disappoint. It was beautiful!!
Also in this space is an aquarium and Madame Tussaud’s Orlando, which you should also check out. Both places were very cool. You can save some money if you purchase tickets to all three at once.
