We had a good bit of cabin fever earlier this year, and decided to take the kiddos to the St. Louis Science Center. This winter in Southern Illinois was pretty terrible. We had a solid 3-4 months of nasty weather. It seemed like it was either cold and snowy or cold and raining the whole winter. Admission is free to the science center but you do have to pay a small fee to park. I hadn’t been in several years so it was fun to check it out again and see what was new!
We had to say hello to the resident T-Rex of course! He was one of our first stops. The boys liked comparing their feet to the T-Rex’s footprint. 🙂
The science center has a dinosaur chat where you can talk with a scientsit about them and ask questions. It was pretty neat! They have a cool area where you can do a dig for some items and the boys liked that a lot also:
There are a lot of interactive exhibits at the St. Louis Science Center, and we ALL had fun with them. I have to say, I really enjoy ages 9 and 6. It is much easier to do things with the kiddos these days. The boys also enjoyed a virtual reality movie that was ‘under the sea’ themed.

One of the coolest new areas to the Science Center is the video gaming area called GameXPloration!! Definitely was a hit with our kiddos. I didn’t get a photo of it, but one the most fun things was the giant Nintendo Super Mario game. Here’s the kiddos at the entrance of the exhibit:
The St. Louis Science Center also had “old school” video games set up. Cam is a huge fan of these types of games which I love. He had a blast playing Sonic!! (Way to make me feel old, Science Center! lol)
The boys (Hubby included) really enjoyed doing the virtual reality goggles too. (Is that what they are called? Goggles? I’m so out of the loop, guys…) Here’s Cam trying to reach out and touch things he cannot. 🙂
Gift Shop Fun!
Of course, we had to visit the gift shop before we left to get the kiddos a souvenir! They don’t often get new things at our house so when we take them some place like this we always purchase a little something. Cam decided he needed this snake. Not sure why, but probably because it’s yellow (his favorite color). He has been dubbed “Slitheron”! They had some very cool kits and even dress-up costumes in the gift shop also.
The Science Center was the perfect way to spend a chilly day indoors! We can’t wait to go back!!
