It’s been almost a year since we got engaged in Nashville. I can’t believe I haven’t told the story of our engagement here yet, but I’m going to dish all about it today! I love a good travel story and this is my favorite travel story!!
I debated if I should wear the outfit I was going to wear for the Lights concert in Nashville to the Belmont Mansion tour & wine tasting. I ultimately decided that I would, but that we would swing back by our hotel so I could ‘freshen’ up. We decided to go to Burger Republic to have a snack before we headed to Mercy Lounge for the meet and greet with Lights. We love a good food experience and their tater tot fondue was divine.
We walked to Mercy Lounge since we were early and it wasn’t far from where we were. We waited outside for a while and eventually made our way to the line outside the fence where all the Lights fans were waiting to be taken into VIP acoustic set and meet and greet. As we filed in and they checked our ID’s, we made our way to the stage to get ready for her performance for only us. I would say there were about 40-50 fans that got to do this – it was so cool. She played a few songs and then answered some questions. I couldn’t believe I was there.
We got in line to meet her and one by one we inched closer. When I walked up to meet her, I cried. Lights’ music has gotten me through a lot. I’ve been listening to her for about a decade and have loved watching her grow with every album. She signed my vinyl record that we purchased at Grimey’s, and I went to go sit down my stuff so I could take a picture with her and Michael, who was just my ‘boyfriend’ at the time.
He walks up to her and hugs her and says “I have a question, but it’s not for you… it’s for her.” I turn around and he gets on one knee holding the prettiest Leo diamond I’ve ever seen. Michael asked me to marry him and I could barely see him through my tears of shock, love and awe that he was able to pull off such a good surprise! I, of course, said yes! We are so in-tune with each other, I cannot believe that I never realized he was planning this for FOUR months. It was the absolute perfect proposal.
As all the fans oohed and ahhed and came up and congratulated us, I was elated. That night was one of the best nights of my life and I will never ever forget it. I had never been happier that day. We got some food at the Sun Diner afterward and it was so much fun reliving that moment at our dinner. We saw the Sun Diner again recently on our last trip to Nashville and it brought back all the feelings. I was the luckiest girl in the world that day, and I’m even luckier now that we are married!
