We rented a car while we were in Paris to visit Normandy. The alternatives to this were taking a train which was going to take quite a bit longer or taking a tour that we had to pay for. So in order to save a bit of cash, we decided we wanted to rent a car. We questioned this decision, but thought “oh well, it’ll be an adventure”. An adventure, it was, friends. LOL! Here is our experience of renting a car in France!
We booked our rental car through Sixt. I had never heard of the company before but they were really great. All we had to do when we got to the Sixt location in Paris, was show them Michael’s drivers license. They had a representative there that spoke English, so it was super easy to communicate with them.
They ended up giving us a brand new Lexus with 0 miles on it. Needless to say, we were a bit nervous about that because if you’ve been to Paris, you’ve seen the traffic and if you haven’t, well, it’s way worse than Atlanta, I’ll tell ya that!
We ended up having to go around Arc de Triomphe on our way back for the night. The worst part of the whole experience was trying to find a place to park in Champ de Mars. It was awful. We finally found a parking garage, but then had to figure out the parking garage rules in Paris. Turns out, we could park it and pay later, so that worked out well for us. The next day we returned the car and didn’t have any issues which we were thankful for.
We were so glad to get rid of that car. 5 out of 10 recommend renting a car in a foreign country but it CAN be done. 🙂
