A few years ago when I was in Orlando, I decided to to take a road trip to Clearwater Beach. It was super easy, since I had my car down there, to go wherever I wanted. (Side note: Driving in Orlando is not bad at all. I’ve been through way worse, like Atlanta during lunch hour, for instance.)
I got up early and left my resort and headed to Clearwater! I’d never been to the beach in Florida before and I was so freaking excited! It was only about a two-hour drive, which I’m used to here in southern IL because that’s how far away we are from St. Louis.
Clearwater had the whitest sand I’ve ever seen. Of course, before I could go into the water, it down-poured, because that’s what Florida does. After that rain though, it was sunny the rest of the time there.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium
I enjoyed being out in the ocean and even spotted a dolphin not too far from me. After beaching it up, I headed to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to see Winter, the dolphin from Dolphin Tale. Her story is amazing and I encourage you to research it and watch the movie. The aquarium is actually home to some scenes of where the movie was filmed also. Part of the aquarium was under construction when I went so I don’t have a lot of photos from it.
After that, I decided to walk down one of the piers, where they were having a weekly boardwalk event. A ton of different people displayed their crafts for sale. It was kitschy and cool.
I went on a sunset dolphin cruise and it was a blast! I didn’t see a dolphin, but they tell you about the famous people who have lived or currently live in Clearwater. The houses and boats are amazing and look as pretty as something you’d see on a postcard. My boat looked like a shark which was cute too. I highly recommend taking one of these cruises because you will see things you normally wouldn’t in Clearwater on a cruise!
